It was just that this particular party set us both off’ – it may have been the general air of smug certainty. We were both immediately too angry to have been civil, and we knew it. Which was why we walked away without saying anything.

I can definitely empathize with your frustration at the general level of historical ignorance sometimes so willingly displayed by tourists. But I’ve also found that many people are quite eager to listen when an expert, even an uninvited one, jumps in with “You know, it’s just SO much more interesting than that, would you like to hear how?” and a short, gently-corrective story-spiel.

I did this not too long ago with an “immigrant” co-worker from the Northeast who was going on about “Sam Houston and the Texas Secessionists” (as if there was no distinction to be made there). And he actually thanked me after I’d sent him a link to one of your blog entries, and he’d visited Comfort on a family day trip. We’re all ignorant at some level.

Hi, Cindy – I would be interested, but it would depend on what issues they are, and how much you want for them. Mine that I have range from late 1958 to 1977, and then I have a scattering of the ones with all-color covers from then on for another year or so.

We are cleaning out our childhood home in anticipation of our Mother moving to assisted living. We have 24 of the original cream colored hardback volumes and the various color hardbacks from 1979 – 1982. We would like to sell all together, if possible, if none of our children want them. Would you be interested?
